The teams met four times last year and split the series two games apiece. The scoring was close as the Raptors held a one-point advantage, 429-428.

The Raptors played the Spurs on Wednesday and lost 104-95. San Antonio struggled in the first half with 12 turnovers, which allowed 15 points, as the Toronto led by 11 points at the close of the first half 53-42.

Then they imploded allowing the Spurs’ to erupt offensively, beating the Raptors 104-95. The Raptors lost their 5th straight despite a stellar performance from DeMar DeRozan, who scored 28 points, and Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani each added 14 points in the loss.

It was the ninth loss in 10 games for Toronto, who have fallen to 13-29 and 4th in the Atlantic Division. The team is strong offensively scoring 100.1 ppg (12th), rebounding 40.6 a game (21st) and handles 22.0 assists per contest (11th), but struggles to defend. As a team, they have allowed 104.5 ppg (25th) and often dig a hole they can’t climb out of. Center Bargnani leads the team with 21.5 ppg and SG DeRozan adds another 15.0 to the score. Reggie Evans has been solid on rebounds with 12.1 a game, while Calderon leads with 8.4 assists.

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat lost to the Hawks on Tuesday 93-89 in the return of LeBron James. Miami continues to wilt under the pressure of close games, losing seven of eight in games that are five points or closer. For a team that recently won 21 of 22, it’s a poor reflection of the capabilities they have. Chris Bosh sat due to injury, and James looked out of rhythm after a week off. He missed a 3-pointer late, and another in overtime, but finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds. Joe and Jamal Crawford scored 19 points apiece for Atlanta, who are now within two games of the division lead.

Miami is a scoring machine when things are going well, with 101.3 ppg (10th) and 42.9 rebounds (8th). With LeBron in charge passing suffers with only 19.6 per game (27th). Defensively, the Heat can limit opponents with the best of them, holding the opposition to 93.7 ppg (5th).

James is the team leader in most offensive categories, averaging 25.6 ppg, 7.2 assists, and 1.5 steals. Bosh will be missed if he misses significant time, as he leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per contests.

Miami has lost some of its early season steam, but should have no trouble against Toronto. With LeBron back in the fold, the Heat will start running on all cylinders again.

Toronto’s offense will struggle against Miami’s in your face style.
