The New York Knicks will look to push their win streak to three when they visit the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night at the Philips Arena in The Big Peach.

New York took advantage of a banged up Miami Heat who without power forward Chris Bosch couldn’t get it done at the Garden, allowing the Knicks to rally to a 93-88 win on Thursday night.

Danilo Gallinari and Landry Fields sank critical back-back 3-pointers in the waning minutes, while Amare Stoudemire scored 24 points, carrying the offensive load through the first three quarters of play. Gallinari finished with 20 points and Fields added 19 points and 13 rebounds to help the Knicks win their second straight after a six-game skid.

The defense hung tough holding the Heat’s LeBron James, who came in as the active scoring leader at Madison Square Garden at 30.5 points per game, to just seven of 24 for 24 points. James missed 14 of 18 shots through three quarters, and appeared to be frustrated at times.

Meanwhile, the Hawks dropped their second in three games to the worst shooting, lowest-scoring team in the NBA as the Milwaukee Bucks rallied from an 11-point deficit en route to a 98-90 upset in Wisconsin on Wednesday night.

The short-handed Bucks, missing three starters, stopped Atlanta’s road winning streak at six, one short of a franchise record.Jamal Crawford led Atlanta with 20 points, as the Hawks stumbled on the road for the first time since Dec. 31.

It was a total offensive collapse for an Atlanta squad that faded down the stretch going just five of 22 from the field in the fourth quarter, missing all six of its 3-point attempts and looked totally lost at times. Al Horford finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Josh Smith had 14 points and 11 boards in the losing effort.

I expect both teams to ready for this match up as New York will want to build on its momentum in an effort to close the 10 ½ game gap that separates them from the division leading Boston Celtics. As for Atlanta, a win could draw them to within 1 ½ games of Southeast division leaders Miami.

Former Knicks guard Crawford scored a game-high 21 points off the bench as the Hawks ended the Knicks’ five-game win streak in the first meeting between the two back on November 27, 99-90 in the Big Apple.

New York enters the contest 2nd in the league in scoring (106.7 PPG), while boasting the NBA’s top frontcourt, scoring 47 points per game from inside the paint.

I expect the Knicks to carry their momentum from their huge win over Miami into Friday’s contest, as the team looks to have turned the corner and appear to back on the highway that saw them go 13-1 starting in mid November to early December.
