The Memphis Grizzlies have won six of their last eight, and are pulling out all the stops in a last ditch effort to make their first postseason run in five years.

Memphis will now try to move past the struggling Hornets and into seventh place in the Western Conference as they shoot for a season-high sixth straight win at the Fed Ex Forum on Friday night. The Grizzlies have won 15 of 20, moving them within a half-game of New Orleans.

With an impressive victory over the NBA-leading San Antonio Spurs 109-93 on Tuesday, the Grizzlies look poised to add to the Hornets three-game losing skid that included a 107-88 thrashing by the Knicks on Wednesday in the Big Apple.

Memphis is 21-8 at FedEx Forum, while the Hornets are 8-2 in its last 10 road games.

Grizzlies’ guard Tony Allen scored 20 points against the Spurs, and is averaging 15.6 in the last nine games — more than double his season average. Memphis forced San Antonio to commit 22 turnovers that led to 30 points. The team has turned mayhem in to magic making second and third efforts count.

While the Grizzlies are on fire, New Orleans has looked lazy and insipid, with absolutely no fight or passion to go out and win games, losing 12 of its last 16.

All-Star point guard Chris Paul continues to struggle with his shooting, scoring a season-low four points on two of seven from the field against the Knicks, while totaling just 17 points over the last three games while connecting on just seven of 29 shots. His shot percentage has tumbled to 34.7 percent from the floor through the month of February, down from his season average of 46.6 percent.

And it only gets worse for the Hornets from their as center Emeka Okafor has shown signs of decline since he returned from an oblique strain that kept him out 10 games. He has totaled a mere 15 points in his last three contests.

The Hornets defeated the Grizzlies 103-102 in overtime on the road Jan. 19, on Marcus Thornton’s layup with 14 seconds left in the extra period.

Recent Trends:
NO are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
NO are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games.
NO are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Southwest.
MEM are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Memphis– New Orleans has won 16 of the last 20 meetings, but lost the most recent matchup in Memphis 107-96 on April 2. I expect that trend to continue on Friday.
