The Miami heat are on fire and will attempt to push their win streak to nine straight when they tip off against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday at the Rose Garden.

Miami held off the Bucks in overtime to win its 12th straight road game, 101-95 on Friday. Chris Bosh had 16 points and 12 rebounds, leading Miami in to its 20th win in its last 21 after a 9-8 start. Bosh scored 10 of his 16 in the fourth quarter and overtime, while LeBron James added 18 of his 26 points in the first half to go along with 10 rebounds.

As for Portland, it rolled to a 108-98 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday behind a solid effort from second-year man Wesley Matthews who scored a career-high 36 points.

Matthews, who has been filling in at shooting guard for the injured Brandon Roy, is out with a left knee injury, hit his first seven shots from the field, and was 7 for 8 from 3-point range to lead the Blazers to a 63-43 lead at halftime. His seven 3s were a franchise record for a half and one off the team record for a game. He reached 30 points for the third time this season but had struggled in his past three games, going 10 for 35 from the field.

LaMarcus Aldridge added 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Blazers, who beat Minnesota for the 14th straight time.

Now the Blazers will try to preserve its 12-3 home record, while at the same time as putting an end to the Heat’s streak. They will have their work cut out for them as Miami is third in the league in field goal percentage at 47.3 and has the second stingiest defense in the league at 92.0 points per game.

Miami has the best field goal percentage against in the league allowing 42.3 and gives up the lowest free throw percentage in the league allowing 72.9 percent per game.

Meanwhile, Portland has been again this season been bitten hard by the injury bug. Gone for the season is starting center Greg Oden, and sitting next to him for the foreseeable future is All-Star guard Brandon Roy.

But playoff talk is still alive and well, as the Blazers are holding on to the final spot in the Western Conference three ahead of Memphis as they begin a stretch of seven home games out of their next nine beginning Sunday night.

The last time Miami beat the Blazers at the Rose Garden was December 1, 2009, 107-100. While the Blazers are smoking at home, it’s hard to bet against the red-hot Heat in this one.
