The Atlanta Hawks are playing much better at home, a place they dropped five of their first eight to start the season, and will attempt to win two in a row at the Philips Center for the first time since December against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday.

The Hawks have won now won 13 of 15 at home, and two of three and five of eight including a barn burner on Wednesday as Joe Johnson scored a season-high 37 points, while Josh Smith had 18 points and 11 rebounds, as Atlanta beat Toronto 100-87 Wednesday night for the Raptors’ 13th straight loss.

Johnson is averaging 32.7 points and 57.7 percent shooting in his last three games and is slowly regaining his All-Star form after missing nine games in December due to elbow surgery.

Atlanta will hope that trend continues when Marvin Williams returns to the lineup to face Los Angeles, a team they have had good success against, winning four of their last five meetings. Williams was suspended for a fight with New York’s Shawne Williams in a victory last Friday.

After shooting just 37.1 percent in the first half and falling behind by as many as 16 points,, the Hawks appeared to headed a loss, but Johnson exploded for 11 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter and Josh Smith added 22, rallying the Hawks to a 107-98 victory over the Clippers the last time the two met back on January 2.

Atlanta is 16-7 at home, but 4-5 against Western Conference opponents this season.

As for Los Angeles, it is 3-15 on the road for the second-worst mark in the West. The Clippers are starting a grueling 11-game road stretch that starts in Atlanta and ends eight days later at the All-Star break.

The Clippers road trip could not have come at a worst time as they had won nine of its last 11 at home, dropping just their second since their loss to Atlanta at the Staples Center on Wednesday against Chicago.

The loss came at a much higher price, though, as the backcourt suffered another blow as Baron Davis went down with a back injury in the 106-88 loss. Davis, along with leading scorer Eric Gordon, who won’t return until after the break due to a wrist injury, will miss the upcoming road trip.

Meanwhile, Blake Griffin recorded his 40th double double and seventh in a row with 32 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to the Central Division leading Bulls. The Clippers were outrebounded 41-30.

The Hawks, losers of four of their last seven home meetings with the Clippers, are trying for a second straight season sweep.

Atlanta is shooting 45 percent from the field while the Clippers are shooting 45.7 percent. Los Angeles, led by Griffin have the rebounding advantage at 43.5 to 39.3 as the Hawks out shoot the Clips from 3-point range, 6.9 three pointers on 37.2 percent compared to 5.9 three pointers on 33.9 percent.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Atlanta – With so many injures to the backcourt, and their dreadful road record, I don’t expect the Clippers to avoid the season sweep in this one.
