Two teams that have clinched spots in the Western Conference playoffs but are looking to secure better seeding meet in Dallas as the Mavericks play host on Wednesday night to the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets have been sensational ever since dealing with the New York Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony trade. Since the calendar changed from February to March, the Nuggets posted a 12-3 record, and they have held six straight opponents under 100 points. Overall, the Nuggets have posted a 15-4 post-trade record.
The biggest beneficiary of the changes in Denver has been point guard Ty Lawson. Denver has won 19 of 25 with him as the starter, and his numbers have seen a sharp increase in minutes (32.7 from 22.6), points per game (up to 14.2 from 9.8), and assists per game (doubled to 6.8). Another player to watch is Nene Hilario, leading the league with a 61.9% shooting percentage.
Denver has also had success against the Mavericks. The Nuggets have won eight of the last 11 regular season games against Dallas, including four of the last six in Dallas. The Mavericks were playing sensational basketball in January and February, but they are just 8-8 in their last 16 contests. 
Scoring has been an issue beyond Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavs have gone four straight games without cracking triple digits, after doing so in 24 of the previous 28 contests they have played. When the Mavericks score 100 or more points, they have an impressive 40-4 mark. Nowitzki leads the club, and is 11th in the NBA, in scoring at 23 points per game on 51.8% shooting from the floor.
With 50 wins again this season, Dallas has won 50 or more games for 11 consecutive seasons, the third longest such streak in NBA history. The Mavericks have held 19 different opponents to 10 or more points under their season average, and they are 14-5 in those contests.
The road team has won two of the three meetings this season between these teams. In the last matchup in February in Denver, the Nuggets edged the Mavs by one point with both teams shooting over 52% from the floor. Dallas leads the all-time series 75-68.
