ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Part of what’s hurt the Wizards this season has been their 5-8 home-road splitm while the Lakers have been helped by a 9-5 home-road split.

Despite the absence of point guard Steve Nash, the Lakers have won three in a row, largely due to the solid play of Steve Blake in Nash’s place. Blake has recorded double-digit assists in four of the team’s last five games, averaging 11.2 points and 10.8 assists over those five games. The most recent of those wins was a 100-86 victory over the Kings.

Blake score only nine points in that game, but dished out 12 of Los Angeles’s 20 assists in the contest. The team’s bigs also had strong outings. Forward Pau Gasol had 20 points and 10 rebounds, while center Jordan Hill racked up 10 and 13. It was Xavier Henry who led the team in scoring with 21 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting. The Lakers hit on 46.0 percent of their shots from the field in the game.

The Lakers had a strong defensive outing, blocking nine shots and holding the Kings to a 41.7 percent shooting night from the field.

The Wizards have been receiving great play their point guard as well. John Wall is coming off of two of his best performances of the season, scoring 37 against Toronto on Friday, then adding 31 against New York on Saturday in a 98-89 victory.

Wall’s 31 points came on 10-of-18 shooting, and he also dished out 7 assists in the contest. The team got some solid contributions from other sources as well. Center Marcin Gortat scored 16 points and added 17 rebounds, adding two blocks as well. Shooting guard Bradley Beal didn’t really have his shot working but still managed 18 points and six assists.

The Wizards continued their improved defensive play in the contest, holding the Knicks to just 89 points on the night, only 37 of which came after the break, and limiting them to 43.9 percent shooting on the night.

The Wizards will have a quick turnaround after this game, with a date scheduled against the Bucks on Wednesday, while the Lakers have a Wednesday date of their own with a game in Brooklyn. Washington has won three of their last four games, largely due to improved play at the defensive end. Neither side’s prospects for scoring a bunch of points seems all that likely in this one, so the under feels like the way to go.

The under is 4-0 in Washington’s last four games overall.

The play: Under 199
