The Clippers (17-20) are a better team when Baron Davis is happy, and the guard has averaged 19.4 points and 10.2 assists in his last five outings, including a triple-double in a loss at Memphis on Tuesday. As good as Davis is, the Clippers’ fate lies in their ability to stop opponents, as they’re a miserable 2-14 when they give up 100 points or more. They have a pair of big bodies in the middle in Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby, but the perimeter defenders need to step up. The Clippers also just received word that No.1 overall draft pick Blake Griffin will miss the rest of the season due to his persistent knee injury.
The Lakers (30-9) have lost three of their last five due to an outbreak of injuries to the squad. Kobe Bryant’s finger injury is bothering him badly, while Pau Gasol is battling hamstring problems. However, this could bode well for the Lakers’ sportsbook odds as Andrew Bynum is getting more touches, and the young center has responded by averaging 18.0 points and 12.6 boards over his last five games.
Lamar Odom has grabbed 14.4 boards over the last five, as well.
Bookmaker odds (bookmaker reviews) will be close in this game, as it isn’t a certainty that the Lakers will be favored in this “home” game (the Lakers and Clippers share the Staples Center). The Lakers have won nine of their last 10 against the Clippers, but Los Angeles’ other hoops team is healthy and much improved, and they also seem to be playing with more confidence. The Lakers are being battered with injuries right now, which is a better time than later in the year, but they’re definitely below full strength, and the Clippers will look to pounce. Davis lit up the Lakers for 25 points and 10 assists in the Clippers’ 102-91 win on January 6th, and there’s no way the Lakers’ point guards can keep up with him.
