L.A. Clippers vs. Houston Rockets Preview

Well, with the Grizzlies win last night it eliminated the Rockets (41-38) from the playoffs and tonight in a game that means nothing in the standings they can snap their 2-game losing streak with a win over the Clippers (31-49), who have also lost 2 straight. NBA lines have the Rockets as 6.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 212.5.

In their last games the Rockets lost to the New Orleans Hornets 101-93 on Wednesday night and the Clippers lost to the Dallas Mavericks 107-96 last night.

This season the Rockets have been a better betting team at 41-36-2 ATS and the Clippers are at 37-42-1 ATS. The Rockets have covered the spread in 10 of their last 14 games against the Clippers.

Houston will likely still play all of their starters, as they only need to win 2 more games to surpass last season’s win total.

This season the Rockets have beat the Clippers in 2 of 3 games. NBA Betting

The Rockets are 24-15 at home on the season while the Clippers are only 9-31 on the road.

The Rockets are the 3rd highest scoring in the league and they will have to score since their D only ranks 22nd in opponents’ points allowed. G Kevin Martin (23.5 ppg) has been playing well and if he and Luis Scola (18.3 ppg) and Kyle Lowry (13.5 ppg) can score the Rockets will be tough to beat.

Clippers F Blake Griffin (22.5 ppg 12.1 rpg) has had a great rookie season, but he has struggled against the Rockets this season only averaging 41.7% shooting against them this season. Griffin, PG Eric Gordon (22.5 ppg), and G Mo Williams (14.5 ppg) will have to carry the offensive load in this game, especially since Chris Kaman is likely out with an injury.

The Clippers are not a good road team this season and I think the Rockets will come out and smoke them in this game even though this game does not mean anything. The Rockets will not be stopped on offense and the Clippers will not be able to keep up with them.

Betting Trends

L.A. is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games and has an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 road games against teams with a home winning percentage of greater than 60%.

Houston is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games against teams with a road winning percentage of less than 40%, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 home games.

Pick: Rockets -6.5
