* PHX has lost four of its last six games SU
* PHX has covered nine of its last 12 home games
* PHX has won 10 of its last 12 home games SU
* PHX has played four of its last six home games UNDER the total

Also…

* NO has covered the last six meetings

* PHX has won 11 of the last 16 meetings SU
* Nine of the last 12 meetings have gone UNDER the total

The Hornets, who found themselves stymied on the offensive end in the latter part of their Western Conference semi-final series against San Antonio last season, got off to a very good shooting start against the Golden State Warriors, as they hit 50% from the field in their opening 108-103 win/non-cover. James Posey, the new addition who comes off the bench as a sixth man, had 11 points.

On Thursday the Hornets play a team that is similar in terms of defensive puissance to Golden State, but has demonstrated in the past that it is better getting the ball up the court and choosing its shots. The Suns hit 49% in a road win at San Antonio to open their season, but with Shaquille O’Neal logging appreciable minutes (30 in the opener – 15 points, 13 boards), they are going to have to slow things down if they want to make him a big part of the game. And along the way I think there are going to be problems with the Suns making the transition to a coach like Mike D’Antoni, who ran a helter skelter offense, and Terry Porter, who doesn’t want to slow things to a crawl but wants to be more deliberate.

The Spurs were without Manu Ginobili last night. The Hornets have all hands on deck. They have won four of the last five meetings and covered the last six, so the matchups are bad for Phoenix here. Chris Nash has taken the torch from Steve Nash. Tyson Chandler, who concentrates on defense, can neutralize O’Neal. New Orleans can dictate pace. And they are mentally tough enough to win anywhere. Let’s take the Hornets plus three points in the BetUS NBA pro basketball sports betting odds.
