Fresh off the NBA All-Star break, these two teams will resume their quest for a postseason berth tonight in Philadelphia, as the NBA season heads toward the home stretch and every win becomes vital to their chance to make it in the postseason field of eight.

Miami is currently 26-27 and in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference. They are fourth in the Southeast division, 9 ½ games out of first. They entered the All-Star break by winning their last two, but are only 3-7 in their last 10. Before their 99-66 romp over Houston, they had lost five in a row. In their last game, the Heat rolled over division rival Atlanta 94-76. They only led by one at the half and by three after three quarters, but blew the Hawks’ wings off in the 4th, outscoring them 27-12.

Dwyane Wade (18 points and 11 assists), Jemaine O’Neal (19 points and 10 rebounds) and Udonis Haslem (14 points and 12 rebounds) all recorded double-doubles in the win. In the 33 point win over the Rockets, six players scored in double figures helping to open up a 25 point lead at the half. Wade leads the team in points per game with 26.5 and assists with 6.5. The next leading scorer is Michael Beasley averaging 15.5 points per game followed by O’Neal with 13.

Philadelphia as shown some signs of life lately, winning six out of their last 10. They are 20-32 on the season and five games back of Chicago, who is currently in the eighth and final playoff spot. While their hopes of making the playoffs are still slim at best, anything can happen in a wide open Eastern Conference. After winning a season high five games in a row, they lost their last game before the All-Star break, dropping a 93-104 decision to Toronto.

After trailing by 15 after three quarters, their comeback attempt fell short in the 4th. Louis Williams (26 points) and Thaddeus Young (15 points) combined for 41 points off the bench in the losing effort. One of the question marks for this game is the return of Allen Iverson to the lineup. Iverson has missed the last couple of games as well as the All-Star game tending to a family illness. Andre Igoudala is the 76er’s leading scorer, averaging 17.1 points per game as well as in assists with 5.7. Samuel Dalembert leads in rebounds with 9.7. Iverson is averaging 14.7 points per game since his return to the team.

Despite their inconsistent play this season, the Heat looked dominant in their last two games and should be able to carry that momentum into Philadelphia tonight to come away with a win.
