The #3 seed Atlanta Hawks travel to Orlando to face the #2 seed Magic for game one of a best-of-seven series in the semifinals of the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs tonight at 8:00 P.M.

Atlanta was faced with elimination when they were stunned by the Bucks at home 87-91 to go down in their opening round series three games to two. Driven by the fear of an early exit, they were able to raise their game to a whole new level, winning game six in Milwaukee 83-69 and then blowing their doors off again in game seven 95-74 back home.

If they are to have any chance in game one or the entire series for that matter, they will need to come out from the start with the intensity they exhibited in their last two games as they cannot afford to play from behind against a team like Orlando.

The key players for the Hawks will be their leading scorer Joe Johnson and the best sixth man in the league, Jamaal Crawford. Despite his team’s success, Johnson has struggled his past three games, averaging just 33 % from the field. None the less he leads the team in the postseason, averaging 23 points a game.

Crawford is averaging 14.8 and center Al Horford is averaging 15.5 points and nine rebounds per game.

Orlando comes into this game well rested as they wrapped up their opening round series against Charlotte in a very convincing four games. Their average margin of victory was just over nine points and the closest game was a four point 90-86 victory in game three.

They closed the Bobcats out last Monday with a 99-90 victory on the road. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Dwight Howard remains the main force behind the Magic’s success but he has gotten help from players like Jameer Nelson and Vince Carter. While Howard only averaged 9.8 points a game in the first round he did pull down 9.3 rebounds per game.

Nelson led the scoring, averaging 23.8 points per game along with 4.5 assists.

Carter kicked in another 15.5 points per game. Another player who could be instrumental in Orlando’s return to the conference finals is Rashard Lewis. In the four postseason games he averaged 15.8 points and 5.5 rebounds.

With all four of these guys playing at a high level along with a solid bench, the Magic present a number of problems for any team they face.

Orlando has been chomping at the bit to get back into action for over a week, while Atlanta could be still feeling the effects of playing a seven game series that just wrapped up on Sunday.
