The Denver Nuggets avoided being swept for the second time in four seasons on Monday night, and will now head back to Oklahoma City beaming with confidence as the look to force the Thunder into a Game 6 back at the Pepsi Center if they can win a pivotal Game 5 at Oklahoma City Arena on Wednesday night.

Oklahoma City were just one game away from clinching its first series since moving from Seattle just three years ago, but the Nuggets Ty Lawson hit two big free throws in the closing seconds, as the Nuggets avoided a sweep by winning Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series against the Thunder,104-101.

It was Denver’s first win over OKC in the last six meetings.

Lawson scored a career playoff-high 27 points while Danilo Gallinari recorded all 18 of his points in the second half for the Nuggets, who kept their season alive by forcing 15 turnovers while only committing eight themselves.

The Thunder’s Kevin Durant, who has now scored 20 or more points in nine of his 10 career playoff appearances, netted 31 points and Russell Westbrook had 30, but the latter missed a trio of three-pointers in the final minute, including one at the buzzer to end the Thunder’s attempt at a sweep. Forward Serge Ikaba chipped in with 13 points and 14 rebounds for his second straight double double.

Now the Nuggets will have to once again draw on coach George Karl’s playoff experience as they trail 3-1 in a playoff series for the 10th time in franchise history.

If the Nuggets want to continue their run they must look to get out on the break as they don’t have the horses to contend with the Thunder in the half court, but do have the athletes to run and gun. They will need Lawson to really push the tempo.

As for Oklahoma City, they will be tough to crack on the defensive end of the court, and if they can get the continued production from Durant and Westbrook, this could be over early on.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Thunder – While fighting off an early exit gave the Nuggets a huge boost, they now must face the arduous task of beating the Thunder two times in a row and on their home wood. I just don’t see that happening.
