The Dallas Mavericks were looking to build off their great comeback win in Game 2, but instead were robbed of a victory on their home court by Dwyane Wade, as he led the Heat to victory and control of the series.

Thanks to Wade’s all out effort, Miami will head into Game 4 of the 2011 NBA Finals in Dallas on Tuesday with a 2-1 lead in the series and statistics on their side. Historically, the winner of Game 3’s with the series tied 1-1 since the Finals switched to the 2-3-2 format, has gone on to win the championship 11 out of 11 times.

Wade set the tone early on in Game 3, driving to the bucket, tracking down loose balls, and stepping up to lead the team with 29 points and 11 rebounds, en route to a close 88-86 victory on Sunday night.

But there was more to Wade’s performance. There were a myriad of well-timed shots, such as scoring seven of Miami’s final nine points, and smart plays on defense, like slowing down and annoying Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzski, who instead of shooting the go-ahead shot in the waning seconds of the contest, threw an errant pass as time ran out. Nowitzski did however finish the game scoring 34 points, including 12 straight down the stretch—six free throws, two layups and the jumper that tied the contest at 86.

But Chris Bosh hit the winning shot with 39.6 seconds left.

There was little help for the German star, as Dallas’ next three best scorers combined for a total of just 34 points. The Mavs played carelessly most of the night, giving up 14 turnovers that turned into 19 Miami points.

With Game 3 in the rear view mirror, it will be interesting to see how the Mavericks respond to the challenge of a Miami team that has simply outplayed them through the first three games of the series.

On the other hand, Dallas has shown its resilience, as publicized by their rally in Game 2, and the down to the wire finish in Sunday’s outing.

Recent Trends:
Over is 9-3-1 in MIA last 13 Tue. games.
DAL are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games.
DAL are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 games overall.
DAL are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 vs. NBA Southeast.
Road team is 21-8-1 ATS in the last 30 meetings.
Under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Dallas.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Dallas – With Sunday’s loss, Dallas fell to 8-2 at home this postseason. I don’t expect them to lose two in a row. I also expect the Mavs to come out with even more urgency with the rest of Dallas’ bench having a breakout scoring night.
