The post-season is just getting started, but if there is an early favorite for MVP of the playoffs it’s just might be someone who can’t shoot 3s – hell, can’t shoot at all. The ball is not in his hands in tight late-game situations because he is capable of damaging rims while taking free throws.

And we’re not talking about Dwight Howard here.

Boston’s Rajon Rondo is the most curious dominant player in perhaps the league’s history. Comparing him to anyone else in the league is futile – there are no other point guards like him, and there may never have been.

He is that unique. Rondo scored 30 on the Knicks in Game 2 by just driving to the basket possession after possession against the beleaguered Toney Douglas.

Rondo made Douglas his bitch again Friday night in Game 3 in New York – dishing out 20 assists while basically mocking what passed for the Knicks defense by dribbling wherever he wanted whenever he wanted.

By the time the dust had settled, Ray Allen had 32 points, Paul Pierce 38 and the series was all but in the books after Boston waltzed off the court with a 17-point win that wasn’t even that close. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Knicks fans will likely point to the injury to Chauncey Billups as the reason Rondo has been able to go off, and there is some validity to that – Rondo had 10 points and 9 assists, shooting 5 for 14 from the field in Game 1, when Billups was hurt in the final minutes.

Laying off Rondo and inviting him to take as many 15-footers as he wants works for only so long, though, and the Knicks will likely go down again Sunday without Billups.

NBA Playoff Trends:
Under is 7-1 in BOS last 8 Sun. games.
Under is 7-2 in BOS last 9 vs. NBA Atlantic.
Under is 10-3-1 in BOS last 14 road games.
Over is 7-1 in NY last 8 home games.
NY are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 Sun. games.
Under is 6-2 in NY last 8 overall.
Underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

The pick: New York fans have to be beyond frustrated as the Billups and Stoudemire injuries have destroyed the Knicks’ business model and poured sugar in their gas tank just as they were gaining momentum.

With Carmelo Anthony the only offensive threat, Boston’s swarming defense can concentrate on keeping him under control.

Boston -2 on the play, then it’s time to focus on the Heat. [One note: The total continues to fluctuate significantly, moving from 191.5 to 195. Time to hook on to the Under.]
