The Memphis Grizzlies look to continue their magical run through the NBA Playoffs when they play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference semifinals.

The two teams have split the first two games in Oklahoma City.

You’ll have to forgive NBA fans in the northwestern United States and southwestern Canada for feeling a little jealous. If this series had taken place a decade earlier, it would have featured the Vancouver Grizzlies taking on the Seattle Supersonics.

The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. It marked their first-ever post-season series victory on franchise history. The Thunder are looking to advance pas the second round for the first time as an NBA franchise since the 1995-96 team in Seattle reached the NBA Finals.

After going off for 34 points and 10 rebounds in the Game 1 victory for the Grizzlies, Zach Randolph was held to just 15 points on 2-for-13 shooting in the Game Two loss. Nick Collison was asked by the Thunder coaching staff to guard Randolph in Game 2 following an injury to Serge Ibaka, and Collison frustrated Randolph.

Ibaka will play in Game 3 after being limited due to a knee injury late in the first half of Game 2. Oklahoma City’s leading scorer Kevin Durant actually scored fewer points in Game 2’s victory (26 on 8-for-18 field goals) than in Game 1’s loss (33 on 11-for-21 shooting).

Memphis will need to shoot better in Game 2. The Grizzlies field goal shooting percentage dropped in Game Two to 44.3 percent from the Game 1 percentage of 49.4 percent efficiency. More impressively, the Thunder saw their field goal percentage increase from 44.9 percent shooting in the first game to 52.8 percent in the second contest of this series.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Grizzlies – Memphis was outstanding at home in the previous series against the Spurs. The Grizzlies defense held San Antonio to under 92 points in each of their three home victories in the first round series. Shane Battier will step up his game defensively against Durant, and the Grizzlies will feed off the energy of their home crowd.
