Game two of the NBA Finals provided everything you could want in a professional basketball game: high scoring, a stellar comeback, and a heart wrenching finish. Now the series is tied going into Game 3 in Dallas on Sunday night.

After a crushing defeat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at the hands of Miami, the Dallas Mavericks won a significant Game 2 to even the series 1-1, and now will head home for a three-game stretch after robbing Miami of their home-court advantage.

Dirk Nowitzki scored the tie-breaking layup with 3.6 seconds remaining that lifted the Mavericks over the Heat to a 95-93 win on Thursday night.

Nowitzki ended the game with 24 points on 10-22 shooting and 11 rebounds. Shawn Marion added 20 points and 8 rebounds while Jason Terry and the Dallas bench dominated Miami’s 23-11.

Dwyane Wade finished with 36 as the “big three” combined for 68 of Miami’s 93 points, proving that Miami’s depth is yet to be found.

The game-winning shot by Nowitzki, one that he completed on his left hand, the same left hand that had a torn tendon in its middle finger, capped off the comeback. Dallas was down 15 points with 7:15 left in the game after a 13-0 run by the Heat that made the score 88-73.

It was after a three-pointer from Wade at the end of that run the sparked Dallas. After the shot, Wade showboated after hitting from distance, perhaps celebrating a little too early.

Terry took offense to this, and scored the Mavs next six points to kick-start his team. Terry scored eight of his 16 points during the final quarter.

Nowitzki sealed the game not just with the final points, but also with Dallas’ final nine, shooting 4-of-5 in that span. The game ended with a 22-5 run by the Mavericks, as Dallas shot 9-10 from the field and the Heat shot 1-10 from the field in the final 6:19 of the game.

The Heat jumped out of the gate in the second half, scoring the first nine points of the third quarter, showing the athletic skills that everyone thought they would have when Bosh and James joined Wade last July. But the fourth-quarter dominance, and the defensive prowess that Heat showed during the entire first three rounds of these playoffs, didn’t show up in game two.

In the final possession, everyone knew who was getting the ball (Dirk), but Miami’s coach, Erik Spoelstra, chose to put Bosh on the power forward, instead of James, who everyone considers able to guard any man on the court. This was a huge coaching mistake that cost Miami the win and the 2-0 lead in the series before heading to Dallas.

Dallas’ efforts where gallant and the over confidence on the Heat’s bench could perhaps be their nemesis if they cannot control their emotions. However, the Heat has lost four games this postseason, but has yet to lose consecutive games.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Miami – It’ll be hard to pick against the Mavericks after the heroic comeback in Game 2. But Miami learned a valuable lesson that the game isn’t over until the buzzer sounds, and I don’t think they’ll let that happen again.

Watch for Miami to dominate Dallas early and often in Game 3, as they take back home- court advantage.
