ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Atlanta (1-2) has taken 10 straight games in the series against the Kings, winning the two last year by an average of 15 points. But this year’s Hawks are a much different team that is finding it hard to win games post the Josh-Smith era.

The Hawks arrive in California’s capital city fresh off a 105-103 loss to the Lakers, where once again their defense did them in, along with being just 14-of-26 from the free-throw line, allowing the Lakers to build an early lead and never look back.

Kyle Korver led Atlanta’s offensive charge, collecting 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting and made all six 3-point attempts for the Hawks. He has now  made at least one 3-pointer in 76 consecutive games – the longest active streak in the NBA.

Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap each scored 14 points, while Al Horford had 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Atlanta is allowing an average of 106 points on 48 percent shooting, and the Kings are just as bad.

Sac (1-2) has dropped two in a row after beating Denver in its season opener.

The latest, was 98-87 loss at Golden State on Saturday.

The Kings allowed Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to combine for 49 points and eight 3-pointers, proving itself vulnerable to smaller, quicker lineups.

Meanwhile, Sacramento had  no answer offensively, as guard Isaiah Thomas, who is averaging 19 points and 4.7 assists off the bench, posted only five against the Warriors.

Rookie Ben McLemore. led what little offense the Kings could muster, coming off the bench with 19 points in his best game as a pro.

Matt’s FREE NBA Prediction:

Both Sacramento and Atlanta are teams that are less skilled offensively and to make matters worse are struggling on the defensive end to matchup to smaller, quicker lineups.

This is a hard one, but I’m going to take the Hawks.

While the Kings do well in the paint, allowing just 33.3 points per game in the paint, Atlanta will get its points on the outside, and off the break, which is something the Hawks can do well.

Hawks 102, Kings 97
