With their leading slimming down in the NBA Central Division, Chicago’s schedule doesn’t get any easier in the coming weeks.

Their foe Thursday night, San Antonio, just got over a tough stretch themselves and have rattled off 4 straight victories.

San Antonio

The defending champs are just kind of hanging around. They’ve suffered cold streaks where they’ve dropped 9 of 14, and experienced hot streaks. They’re currently in the middle of another hot streak where they’ve won 4 in a row and have found themselves back to within 3.5 games of 1st place in a stacked NBA Southwest Division.

San Antonio has won their past 3 contests all by double digits. In their most recent outing on Tuesday, they handled the Denver Nuggets 109-99. Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Kawhi Leonard led the way for San Antonio. Leonard’s performance stood out the most as he went for a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Parker had his best performance since returning from his hamstring injury. Parker dropped 18 points and dished out 7 assists in the victory. His numbers have been down since his injury as he’s scored just 9 points a game and averaged 3 assists.

The Spurs have won 3 of the last 4 meetings with the Bulls and bring a 12-10 road record into this contest.

Chicago

The Bulls are struggling in multiple categories as of late. Scoring, defense, and staying healthy continues to problem the 1st place Bulls. The main piece missing has been C Joakim Noah. Noah injured his ankle and is likely to miss his 4th straight game. While Gasol has picked up the slack, Noah’s presence and scoring is still missing.

Also on the injured wire is Mike Dunleavy, who’s missed 10 straight games with an ankle injury. Dunleavy was averaging almost 10 points a game and was another threat from behind the arc for Chicago. He’s listed as questionable for Thursday nights contest.

The Bulls may get a little help in the 3 point department as rookie shooter Doug McDermott is expected to be back in the lineup on Thursday. McDermott has been out since November 30th with a knee problem.

The high point during this tough stretch for Chicago has been the play of PG Derrick Rose. Rose has averaged 25.5 points during the last 4 games for Chicago. He’s also averaged 6.8 assists during that time.

He’ll look to continue that and get some help from Jimmy Butler and company. Butler has averaged 21 points against the Spurs in his career.

NBA Basketball Trends:

  • Spurs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
  • Spurs are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Bulls are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. Western Conference.
  • Bulls are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss.

Free 4* NBA Basketball Pick: Chicago +6

Many factors play into this side. First, Chicago needs to get back on track here. While the Spurs are no pushover, heading back to the United Center in the national spotlight, expect a high level of play from all Bulls players. Also, if Dunleavy and McDermott both play tonight, it offers Chicago 2 more 3 point threats the Spurs have to worry about.

Chicago 104, San Antonio 100

The Bulls put an end to their abysmal play with an outright home win.
