This will mark the 2nd and final time this season that the two will meet. In the first meeting, Cleveland pulled away from Memphis en route to a 105-91 home victory. Currently, both teams sit in 2nd place in their respective conferences.

Cleveland

The Cavaliers certainly have the attention of everybody in the NBA. Cleveland has won 27 of their last 33 games and have jumped into a secure 2nd place in the NBA Eastern Conference.

The Cavs will try to solidify it’s spot with a win against a Western Conference opponent, which they’ve been quite successful against this season.

While obviously the big 3 have led to most of the success for Cleveland, the season really turned around when they acquired J.R. Smith from the Knicks. Smith never really had a fit in role in New York, but when he came to Cleveland, he felt right at home.

Smith is averaging 12.1 points a game, but has shown that number can easily be surpassed while he’s in a Cavs uniform. He did just that last time out for the Cavs as he went for 23 points and dished out 4 assists. 21 of those points came from 7 3 pointers made by the guard.

Lebron’s success and the Cavs success against the Western Conference go hand in hand. James has averaged nearly 30 points a game against the Western Conference over the last 13 meetings.

As a team, Cleveland is scoring almost 110 points a game against the West.

Memphis

Like the Cavs, Memphis has solidified their spot in Western Conference.

While it is unlikely they catch Golden State, Memphis currently sits in 2nd place, up two games from the 3rd spot. In a much more crammed conference, Memphis will need to do a little more work to hold onto their spot.

The Grizzlies success has come from big men Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.

C Marc Gasol is averaging 17.8 points a game and is coming off a 21 point, 8 rebound performance.

F Zach Randolph is averaging 16.6 points a game to go along with nearly 11 rebounds a game. Like Gasol, Randolph is coming off an impressive performance going for 23 points and 7 rebounds.

Memphis will likely be without starting PG Courtney Lee, who will be missing his 3rd straight contest. Lee has been battling a right hand sprain. On the season, the point guard is averaging 10.3 points a game.

Dating all the way back to the 2009-2010 season, Memphis has won 5 straight meetings between the two teams in Memphis.

NBA Basketball Trends:

  • Cavaliers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
  • Cavaliers are 18-8 ATS in their last 26 games following a S.U. win.
  • Grizzlies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS win.
  • Grizzlies are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games.
