Cleveland

Although it took them 18 games to do it, the Cavaliers have finally jumped the Chicago Bulls for 1st place in the NBA Central Division standings.

Winners of 6 in a row, the Cavs continue to shut teams down on the defensive end and are getting production from the Big 3 every night. On Thursday, Irving dropped 37 against the Knicks en route to a 90-87 Cavs win. Friday, Lebron stepped up with 24 points and 13 assists in a 14 points Cavaliers win.

While scoring hasn’t been a problem for the 10th ranked team in points (103.1 points a game),  the Cavaliers have allowed opponents to score only 90.7 points during their 6 game winning streak. They’ve seen their season average points allowed drop to 98.7 (11th) with their recent success on defense.

During this 6 game winning streak, the Cavaliers have helped backers by going 4-2 ATS. On the road this season, Cleveland is 5-3 S.U., but just 3-5 ATS.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn can point to their lack of offensive production as the main reason for their 8-10 record thus far. Brooklyn hasn’t scored over 100 points in 7 straight contests and has seen their points per game drop to 97.3 (21st). The Nets will look for leading scorer Deron Williams to have a bounce back game after scoring just 8 points on 3 of 8 shooting.

If Brooklyn’s lack of offense wasn’t bad enough, they’ll now be without starting C Brook Lopez, who was averaging a double double in his last three games. The Nets announced Sunday that Lopez will miss at least four games with a back strain injury. Mason Plumlee will see an increased role in the offense with Lopez missing some time.

Even with a below .500 record, the Nets still find themselves in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division. However, they’ve allowed the Raptors to open up a 6 game lead for 1st place.

At home this season, Brooklyn is 4-5 S.U. and just 3-6 ATS. They are just 1-7 this year against teams above .500.

NBA Basketball Handicapping Trends:

  • Cavaliers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games.
  • Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Atlantic.
  • Nets are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points.
  • Home team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.

Brooklyn has dropped 4 of their last 5 inside Barclays Center. When playing above .500 teams, Brooklyn is scoring just 93.6 points a game. Cleveland will finish up their 3 game road trip Monday night and head home for the 2nd leg of their back-to-back against Toronto.

Free 4* NBA Basketball Pick: Brooklyn +7.5

The Cavaliers have been on the road for a week now for this 3 game road stint.

Cleveland 93, Brooklyn 90

This could be a potential trap position for them with a home game less than 24 hours from tip off in Brooklyn. Brooklyn will keep this game close, ultimately falling by a couple points in the end.
