Portland

The Trail Blazers enter this contest with the NBA’s longest winning streak. The team from the Northwest Division has won seven straight, which is two more than the next in line can claim — the Golden State Warriors with five straight victories.

Against the 76ers, Portland’s main goal is to avoid overlooking the competition. The 76ers are are the league’s worth team at 0-13, and it would be easy for the Blazers to look past Monday with the Charlotte Hornets — a team that gave them troubles at home earlier this year — on the horizon.

Against Philly, the goal is to force the ball-dominant Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Wroten into mistakes. Both average more than four turnovers per game, yet both lead the team in scoring at 17.7 and 14.3 points per game, respectively.

This shouldn’t be a difficult game for Portland, but coming off a Sunday-night game in Boston could add some fatigue. Luckily, the team has a light start to the road trip with the Celtics and Sixers, and barring a complete upset, should get another win to add to the league’s longest winning streak.

Philadelphia

What can we say about the Philadelphia 76ers? We could mention that they’re 30th in points, 26th in points allowed, 26th in assists and 27th in rebounds, but that just doesn’t do justice to how bad they are.

At this point in the process, no team in the NBA is tanking as obviously as the Sixers. They drafted a center who won’t play for the second year in a row, and they did it without ever intending on the big man playing throughout the season.

Will the Sixers get a win this season? Of course they will. This isn’t going to be the first team to ever lose all 82 games. The 76ers will win, and they’ll do it enough times to (hopefully) satisfy their fans during this rebuild.

That said, it likely won’t be against one of the hottest teams in the entire Association.

Look for this one to be another success when it comes to playing for another top draft pick.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • 76ers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog.
  • 76ers are 11-25 ATS in their last 36 games as a home underdog.
  • 76ers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
  • Trail Blazers are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 Monday games.
  • Trail Blazers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
  • Trail Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog.
  • Trail Blazers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

4* NBA Prediction: Portland -12.5

Betting trends favor the Trail Blazers in this one, and they should. Portland is the favorite, but more importantly, the Sixers are about as bad as it comes.

Look for the Blazers to win this one in grand fashion. Pick Portland in a landslide.
