Portland

The Trail Blazers are rolling. They may have lost on Nov. 28 to the dominant Memphis Grizzlies, but they’ve won 14 of their last 15, which puts them just behind the league-leading Golden State Warriors as the best team in the NBA.

Against Minnesota, the goal will be to push the pace. The T-Wolves allow the most points per game in the Association, and a team like Portland can certainly take advantage.

More specifically, this one comes down to LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard. The two All-Stars are leading the way in scoring for the Trail Blazers, and as long as they do what they score best (score the basketball) this group should play with confidence from start to finish against the Western Conference’s worst team —  a team that is barely ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Minnesota

The Minnesota Timberwolves had a very clear plan entering this season.

They weren’t going to be the league’s worst team, but they were going to take two very obvious steps back in order to take one very big leap forward. Kevin Love was all but gone, and the team traded away its star in order to come up with youth and assets entering 2014-15

Unfortunately, this plan hasn’t worked out immediately, as the team is down-right awful with the 2014-15 season one-quarter of the way over.

Against Portland, the strategy has to be stopping both LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard.

The problem is, this team has very little veteran experience to make that happen in 2014.

4* NBA Prediction: Portland – 10.5

The Portland Trail Blazers are riding a hot streak. The Minnesota Timberwolves are doing the exact opposite.

Behind the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons, the Timberwolves are probably the worst team in the league. Expect this one to go exactly as the point spread indicates.

Portland wins by double digits — likely pushing past 15 points when the clock is getting ready to strike zero despite being on the road.
