The Pistons’ winning streak coincides with the release of Josh Smith, who had been the team’s highest paid player.

Since dropping him, the team has won five in a row by an average margin of 18.2 points, averaging 14.0 more points and allowing 10.9 fewer points on a per game basis.

In addition to Smith’s absence, the team’s recent success can be attributed to the uptick in performance from point guard Brandon Jennings. Jennings is averaging 21.6 points on 55.8 percent shooting over the course of the winning streak. In the 10 games prior, he averaged 7.6 points on 28.3 percent shooting.

Jennings is coming off one of his best performances of the season, scoring a season-high 35 points on 14-of-21 shooting in a 114-95 victory over Sacramento on Sunday.

The trip to San Antonio will still be a tough one for the Spurs. They’ve lost seven of 10 against the Spurs, including four in a row in San Antonio, with those road losses coming by an average margin of 19.0 points.

The Pistons are 6-22 in San Antonio since 1990.

FREE Pistons vs. Spurs Pick:

The Pistons have been playing much better of late, while the Spurs have been mired in a bit of a slump. Despite one team outperforming the other, the name value that comes on the front of each jersey keeps the San Antonio in a range as favorites that they just don’t deserve at the moment.

Additionally, with the Pistons’ increased offensive performance, expect them to fill the basket quite well on Tuesday night, while the team’s increased defensive effort likely won’t be enough to slow the Spurs too much.
