The veteran Nets team has underachieved so far this year, but have shown glimpses of improvement.

Brooklyn

The Nets are led by star point guard Deron Williams who has a great understanding of how to get everyone involved and also score the basketball. Williams is leading the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game to go along with a team leading 6.7 assists and 1.2 steals.

The loss of Paul Pierce has proved to be quite detrimental to the starting lineup. Other players have had to step up such as Joe Johnson and Brooke Lopez. Johnson has played quite well this year averaging 15.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. Power forward Kevin Garnett, playing in his 19th season, has obviously started to slow down only scoring 7.8 points per game with 8.4 rebounds.

Center Brooke Lopez has been a factor in the paint averaging 1.7 blocks per game while adding 16.1 points. When the Nets have been successful this year Garnett and Lopez have been productive, when they are not it is usually means trouble.

Last night Brooklyn lost to Miami, who were without leading scorer Chris Bosh, but had no answer for Dwayne Wade who dropped 28 points.

Mason Plumlee has come on as of late, he had 21 points last night along with Deron Williams who added 15 points to go along with 11 assists.

Toronto

The Raptors come into this game looking to win their fourth in a row, but will still be without superstar DeMar DeRozan. Last game they took care of the Magic winning 95-82 thanks to an impressive performance from Kyle Lowry who had 17 points along with eight assists.

Lou Williams has been spectacular coming off the bench, he added 18 points on Monday against the Magic. Toronto has been one of the best team in the league. Currently they hold the one seed in the east mostly because they are averaging 107.4 points per game which ranks third overall in the league.

Toronto has been phenomenal this year against teams are under .500 with a 12-1 record. The weakest part of their game has been rebounding this year and will be challenged in this game going up the big front court of the Nets.

Small forward Terrence Ross has been asked to step up with the absence of DeRozan. Ross is averaging 12.0 points per game, but his offense hasn’t been his biggest contribution. He has the responsibility of guarding opposing teams’ top scorer.

In order for the Raptors to take of business at home, power forward Amir Johson and center Jonas Valanciunas will have to shut down Kevin Garnett and Brooke Lopez.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Raptors are 4-1 ATS in their last five games at home.
  • Nets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games on the road vs a team with a winning home record.
  • Nets are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.
  • Raptors are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Raptors are 4-1 ATS in their last five games vs. team with a losing road record.

NBA Gambling Prediction

It is extremely hard for older teams to come out and play with intensity on the back end of back to back games. Toronto is an excellent home team at covering the spread especially against teams with a losing record. The Raptors will have no problem winning this game and don’t let the double digit line discourage you.

Look for the line to drop as game time approaches, so wait as long as possible to make this play.

Even with DeMar DeRozan still being out scoring points will not be an issue. I expect Lowry to win the point guard matchup vs. Deron Williams.

Raptors 106, Nets 92

The front court of Toronto will contain Garnett and Lopez and will do just enough to cover the spread.
