Los Angeles

It is almost hard to believe how far they have fallen but the Lakers got just their second win of the season last night.

There are a lot of reasons this team is bad but put simply there just isn’t a lot of talent and even though Kobe Bryant is averaging a staggering 27ppg it is not enough to overcome the fact that they are a terrible defensive team with few other scoring threats.

For the first time in forever you almost feel sorry for Bryant. He couldn’t have been thinking of this during his rehab.

The Lakers won last night because Kobe didn’t have to do all the work. In the game 5 player scored in double figures, including Carlos Boozer who turned back the clock a bit himself with his first double-double of the season.

The only hope the Lakers have is to become an elite offensive team but other than Bryant and reserve Nick Young they don’t really have the horses to play that way.

Houston

By all measures the Rockets have gotten off to a very strong start.

The only downside to their 9-2 record is that another team in their division, Memphis, is 10-1.

It is going to be a really competitive season in the Southwest as all the teams in the division currently have winning record.

The only group in the NBA that can make that claim. Houston’s last game was a loss to Memphis but the Lakers coming to town provide the perfect opportunity to not let the losing fester.

Even though James Harden is a gunner the Rockets are pretty balanced.

Harden leads with 23ppg but he is also their top assist man and every other starter is in double figures. Dwight Howard is second on the team at 18ppg and among league leaders in rebounding but struggling with his foul shooting as usual.

If things hold this would be his worst season at the stripe at just 46%.

It is too bad.
