The Kings and Lakers have had some very important meetings in past seasons, but this season-closing home-and-home series will have absolutely no impact on the postseason picture in the Western Conference. The Lakers hope to win both games to avoid the first 60-loss season in the history of the franchise, and arrive in Sacramento having lost six of their last seven.

Meanwhile, the Kings have lost three in a row and eight of nine, and will play out their schedule without center DeMarcus Cousins or small forward Rudy Gay, who will sit out the remainder of the team’s schedule with foot and head injuries, respectively.

The Kings are 9-19 under new head coach George Karl after falling to the Denver Nuggets by a score of 122-111 on Sunday.

The Lakers, meanwhile, fell to the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 120-106, and lost forward Wesley Johnson to a sprained left ankle in the process. It’s unlikely he’ll suit up again this season.

Lakers center Tarik Black has posted back-to-back double-doubles and has a good chance to keep that trend going with Cousins out. He posted a career-high 19 rebounds against the Mavericks on Sunday.
