Free NBA Pick: Lakers vs. Hawks Gambling Lines & Preview

NBA Gambling: Los Angeles vs Atlanta

The Los Angeles Lakers 1-9 (5-5 ATS) haven’t been that bad for bettors yet this season. They play on the road tonight against the Atlanta Hawks 5-4 (4-5 ATS) in what should be a relatively close game.

The Lakers have lost four in a row, but those losses have all come against good teams. The Hawks were blown out by the Cavaliers on Saturday, but they’ll be hungry to bounce back against a weak opponent.

Atlanta is 4-0 at home this season and two of those wins have come by double digits against the Heat and Pacers. This team when healthy is tough, but they lack depth and have struggled to play defense.

DeMarre Carroll is questionable for this game, but I don’t expect him to play. The Hawks only have to play two games this week and with Sefolosha playing reasonably well I expect Carroll to be given time to heal.

Carroll is the much better player defensively and he can put up points when on his game. Atlanta averages 101.9 PPG (13th), 39.1 RPG (28th) and 25.1 APG (3rd). The starting unit has a lot of chemistry this year.

Paul Millsap leads the team in points (16.8 PPG) and rebounds (8.4 RPG). Jeff Teague is scoring 15.0 PPG and leads the Hawks in assists (7.4 APG). I still think Al Horford is finding his game and will improve.

The Lakers average 101.6 PPG (14th), 40.8 RPG (21st) and 19.6 APG (22nd). Kobe Bryant is scoring 27.3 PPG, which is more than double the next player on the Lakers (Hill – 13.4 PPG) and that’s a problem.

Bryant has come out firing this year, but he has taken a ton of shots and isn’t getting a lot of help. Lin and Boozer have both been struggling with their new team and the Lakers lack depth off their bench.

Both defenses have been poor, as the Lakers allow 112.1 PPG (30th) and the Hawks allow 102.8 PPG (22nd). I expect a lot of points and I’m not convinced the Hawks play good enough defense to cover ATS.

Atlanta is going to have a considerable edge inside in the paint, but the Lakers will be able to find open shots from their guards in this one. This one comes down to how well the Lakers big men play.

Free NBA Pick: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Atlanta Hawks

These two played each other four times last season and they split the series 2-2 with the home team winning every game. However, all four of the games were decided by four points or less.

The Lakers are bad, but they know this is a winnable game despite being on the road. I expect them to fall short, as the Hawks are tough at home, but the Lakers can keep this within single digits.
