These teams have started as expected, one up and one down. Philadelphia is going to have to wait a little longer for their first win.

Houston

The Rockets are off to a fast start and as long as they play well they can avoid the questions about whether they should have signed versatile forward Chandler Parsons in the offseason.

You can’t argue with 3-0 but it should be noted that they have had a very favourable schedule early on, even tought this will be their third road game in four to start the season.

So far, stars like James Harden and Dwight Howard have performed to expectations and the Rockets have shown their depth.

It looks like the shackles are finally off forward Terrence Jones. He is second on the team in scoring and rebounding and leading the team in blocks. His elevation is good news and new three man Trevor Ariza is slotting in nicely.

PG Patrick Beverley probably needs to pick up his game a little but I think his numbers are down in part because the Rockets have not been challenged much yet.

Philadelphia

It is anybody’s guess what the 76ers are doing. For the second year in a row they drafted a player who might miss the whole season and they have a roster that is near guaranteed to put them back in the lottery. They are doing more than just losing games, they are not even close.

None of their games have been any closer than 12 points and the spread have gone from 7.5 to 8 to 9.5.

I am interested to see what the numbers will be when they face really good teams on the road. They might be record setting.

Nerlens Noel is healthy this year and is proving that his game is as raw as feared.

There is no doubt that he can rebound and erase shots at the rim but he is shooting a terrible 38% and it is hard to see his offensive game getting much better in the short term.

The 76ers leading scorer is Tony Wroten, a nice player who is taking advantage of the fact that there are a lot of shots available right now. On most teams he would not be playing all that much.

4* NBA Score prediction:  Houston 99 – Philadelphia 83

The 76ers are not going to crack through in this one. Even if the Rockets are a little unfocused they will ultimately dominate.

You can play with the chalk without getting burned.
