Sometimes when nobody is looking is the best betting opportunities.

Denver

The Nuggets have been coming on strong lately, winning 6 of their last 7 games.

At 8-8 they are now in second place in the Northwest Division and since there are so many dogs at the bottom maybe this team will be alright this season afterall.

This is one of the most balanced teams around. They play lots of guys and nobody really dominates statistically.

They are fourth in the league in scoring but their porous defense means that they keep the other team in the game too.

The depth of Denver could overwhelm the Jazz even as they play without Randy Foye and Jevale McGee, two rotations guys.

This might seem statistically impossible but 13 players on the roster are averaging double-digit minutes.  PG Ty Lawson is having an especially good start to the season averaging 16ppg while also dishing out 10 assists per contest.

SG Arron Afflalo has also found a home as a high volume scorer.

Utah

The Jazz have lost 5 in a row and only one of those games was any close. They have a young roster and they might have some nice pieces but it is definitely not coming together in any meaningful way.

My bet is that is won’t until they start being able to make more plays on the defensive end. Other than Derrick Favors who can alter some shots they don’t have anyone who is known for defense.

Rookie Dante Exum has the athleticism but it hasn’t come together just yet.

All five starters average double figure points but the Jazz do not get much from their bench – in some ways they are the complete opposite of Denver.

Gordon Hayward is the leading scorer but he can be impatient and the rest of the team dumps the ball his way when things are not looking good so he is forced to take a bunch of shots he probably shouldn’t.

Trey Burke needs to become a better shooter for this team to have any real chance of improving.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 4-0 in Nuggets last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
  • Over is 5-1 in Nuggets last 6 overall.
  • Under is 5-1 in Nuggets last 6 Monday games.
  • Jazz are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Jazz are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
  • Jazz are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
  • Over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings in Utah.
  • Nuggets are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Utah.

NBA Prediction:  Denver -2.5

I expect the Nuggets to overwhelm the Jazz with their depth.

NBA Score prediction:  Denver 107 – Utah 98

They are the better shooting too. Rested this is a bad matchup for the home team.
