Atlanta

The Hawks won a huge game against Golden State on Friday night but it was not much of a surprise that they had a letdown against Memphis yesterday. They played a solid game throughout but the Grizzlies got them.

This week they have a couple of light opponents on the road so they can go into the All-Star break with some positive momentum.

I am still having a hard time getting over how good they have been in the first half. They are by far the surprise team thus far.

The more I see of him this year the more I am impressed with PG Jeff Teague.

I have always thought he would never justify his draft position but now it looks like the extension they were forced to give him in 2014 was a steal.

Kyle Korver is not a great player but he is having his best season as a pro. He has been one of the best shooters in the league for years but this season he has taken it to another level making 52% of his three point attempts.

Minnesota

The Timberwolves have the worst record in the Western Conference. However, they are playing their best ball of the season having won their last three games including a rare road victory over a decent Detroit team.

They even surprised Memphis at home by a point. They are not ready to go on a tear but for a team that has been terrible they might be playing with as much confidence as they have had all season long.

Kevin Martin is back and he is making a difference.

Four of Minnesota’s eleven wins have come since rejoined the team at the end of January. His additional scoring has taken a little pressure off rookie Andrew Wiggins while also giving the talented slasher more room to operate.

Martin has never been one of my favourite players but he knows how to score, you can’t deny it.

Now they just have to get Ricky Rubio in the lineup more consistently to see what this team could look like.
