A big reason for the Thunder’s improvement of late has been the play of star Kevin Durant, who is averaging 37 points per game over the team’s last six contests, including a masterful 51-point effort in the team’s last outing, in which the Thunder needed every one of those points to eke past the Toronto Raptors in overtime, 119-118.

Durant scored 30 in the Thunder’s last meeting with the Nuggets, and is averaging 33 points in his last four meetings with Denver.

That game provided a serious scare to the Thunder, as point guard Russell Westbrook was forced to exit after bumping knees with the Raptors’ Kyle Lowry.

Westbrook slammed the ball down in frustration and was forced to exit the game, but the team was dealt some good news over the weekend as it was discovered that Westbrook suffered only minor damage to his surgically repaired right knee.

It does, however, seem unlikely that he suits up Monday against Denver. The team would surely like to get him back in the lineup sooner rather than later, as he is averaging 30.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 6.8 rebounds over his last nine games.

As for the Nuggets, their stretch of five wins in seven games has coincided with a bump in the production of power forward Kenneth Faried, who is averaging 19.2 points and nine boards in those contests.

The Thunder have proven already this season that they can not only play without Russell Westbrook, but they can blow opponents out of the water.

The Thunder will now be looking for some revenge after dropping the last meeting between these clubs, and having their home crowd behind them should help their chances of running away with this one. While the Nuggets have upped their play of late, that’s come largely on the back of five consecutive home wins.

The team has lost three of its last 13 road games, with two of those wins coming against Eastern Conference bottom-dweller Orlando and Milwaukee.

Now Denver draws an elite Western Conference opponent on the second night of a back-to-back, with another elite Western Conference opponent, San Antonio, on deck. A dose of reality seems to be in order.

The Thunder are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six home games, while the Nuggets are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

The play: Oklahoma City -10.5
