Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs Preview
In a Southwest Division match up in the Lone Star State tonight the San Antonio Spurs (33-6) host the struggling Dallas Mavericks (26-11). NBA lines have the Spurs as 8-point favorites in this game with a total of 189.5.
The Spurs have the best home record in the league (20-2) while the Mavericks have the best road record (12-3). The Mavs have lost 3 straight and are only 4-6 in their last 10 games while the Spurs are streaking winners of 4 in a row and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. San Antonio is in first place in the Southwest Division with Dallas in 2nd place 6 games back.
In their last games both played on Wednesday night with the Mavericks losing to the Indiana Pacers 102-89 while the Spurs beat the Milwaukee Bucks 91.84.
One of the main reasons the Mavs are struggling is that they have been without their big gun of Dirk Nowitzki, who is averaging 24.1 ppg. Marion (11.1ppg) and PG Jason Terry (15.6 ppg) are the only 2 players averaging in double figures with Nowitzki and Butler out and they will have to score tonight for Dallas to pull off the upset.
Tony Parker (17.1 ppg) has struggled in the last few games with his shot and the Mavs hope his struggles continue. The Spurs have no lack of scoring options with 5 guys averaging in double figures led by Manu Ginobili (19.1 ppg), so Dallas must play great D tonight or they will lose.
The Mavericks always play the Spurs tough, but they simply cannot stop the Spurs from scoring and they will have major problems scoring themselves with their top 2 scorers out. The Spurs will shut down Terry and not allow him to have a big game and they will also win the battle of the boards. The 8-point spread is a big one between these rivals, but without Dirk the Spurs will win the game and cover the spread.
