The Spurs are coming off an overtime win on Tuesday which could mean limited action for their veterans, while the Mavericks cruised to victory on Tuesday which will leave them feeling a little fresher.

The Spurs return home after winning in Memphis on Tuesday night. The team has now won five of their last six games and sit comfortably atop their division. Now, playing on the second night of a back-to-back, the team can afford to rest some of their starters.

The team leads the NBA in bench scoring, and that could be a factor that comes into play on Wednesday night. Manu Ginobili in particular could be a candidate for some extra rest after feeling tightness in his hamstring late in Tuesday’s game against Memphis, though he was healthy enough to hit critical baskets late in the fourth quarter and in overtime. Additionally, the team is still without starting center Tiago Splitter who is out three-to-five weeks with a shoulder injury. Guard Marco Belinelli has been one of those key extras, chipping in 10.6 points per game.

As for the Mavericks, they hold a 2.5-game lead over Denver and Minnesota for the eighth and final playoff seed in the tightly contested Western Conference. The team has been able to really step up their game on the road in recent weeks. After a 4-9 start away from home, the team has won four games in a row on the road.

The team’s most recent win came away from home in a 110-97 win over the Lakers on Tuesday night. Vince Carter chipped in a big 19 points for the team, and the club combined to rack up 17 steals, the most the team has accumulated in a game since 2005. The team did lose another member of their supporting cast on Tuesday night though as forward Shawn Marion was knocked out of the game after taking a hard fall and won’t make the trip out to San Antonio.

The Spurs may not give full minutes to their stars with this game coming on the second night of a back-to-back, but with this game being played against the rival Mavericks that seems unlikely. Even still, the Spurs have proven they can overcome that, going 4-0 ATS in their last four games played on the second night of a back-to-back. Additionally, they’ve dominated this series in recent years, covering the spread in 10 of the last 12 meetings, and four of the last five at home.

The favorite is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings between these teams.

The play: San Antonio -6.5
