ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Bobcats have impressed this year with strong defensive play, while the Raptors have been streaking since trading away leading scorer Rudy Gay.

The Raptor offense has become much more efficient without Gay, who had been the team’s top player entering the season, and the team put that on display in their last game, a 99-77 win over the Bulls.

Point guard Kyle Lowry led the team in scoring against the Bulls with 16 points on 7 of 14 shooting, adding six assists and two steals.

Jonas Valanciunas scored 15 points with 11 rebounds and four blocks as he continues to develop into a strong big man for the Raptors.

DeMar DeRozan hit on 7 of his 14 shots from the floor for 15 points, adding seven boards and four assists.

Power forward Amir Johnson had asked to be taken out of the starting lineup a little over a week ago but he’s taken a stranglehold on the starting gig since then, and scored 14 points with eight rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes against the Bulls.

As a team, the Raptors shot 48.2 percent from the floor in the game.

The Raptors also came up with a strong effort at the defensive end, limiting the Bulls to just 36 percent shooting from the field.

They were especially effective in their coverage of Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer, who hit on just 4 of 18 shots from the field in the game.

As for the Bobcats, they’ve been doing a great job at the defensive end of the court this season, limiting opponents to just 92.5 points per game, the third best mark in the Association entering play on Tuesday. They did so by holding opponents to just .428 shooting from the field, fifth best in the Association.

The team has needed to be strong at that end of the court, because they’ve shot just .416 from the floor on the year, the worst mark in the Association.

A big part of that comes from the lack of a true distributor. Point guard Kemba Walker’s 4.6 assists per game lead the team, as they have compiled just 18.8 steals per game.

The Bobcats are 8-0 ATS in their last eight road games and have played well above what many expected in the preseason, but the Raptors have really stepped up their game since the Gay trade and will be looking for revenge after a loss in their last meeting.

The home team is 7-0 SU in the last seven meetings between these teams and 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.

The play: Toronto -5.5
