The Philadelphia 76ers play host to the top team in the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Wachovia Center tonight. Much to the dismay of the Sixer faithful, Lebron James is expected to return to the lineup after sitting out the last two games with a twisted ankle.

With a record of 50-15, the Cavaliers currently have a 4 ½ game lead over Orlando for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have won seven out of their last eight with the only blemish being an 85-92 loss to the Bucks with James out of the lineup. Even more impressive is the fact that they are tied with Boston for the best road record in the league at 22-11. They come into this game having won six straight games in Philly and seven out of the last eight overall between the two.

The only speed bump for tonight’s game could be the absence of Antwan Jamison, who may have to sit this one out after being treated for a cyst behind his left knee. Other than that the Cavs should be ready to go with a well rested James on the floor.

Philadelphia’s season has gone from bad to worse. After getting blown out 87-102 at home on Wednesday by the Bobcats, they have fallen to 23-41 on the year. They have lost seven out of their last eight by an average of an average of 14 points. They have only scored over 100 points in one of those defeats but have given up an average of 107 points over this same span.

Their top scorer, Andre Iguodala who is averaging 16.8 points a game, has averaged less than 12 points a game during their recent slide. In the two previous meetings with the Cavaliers this season they managed to keep things relatively close to the end, dropping a 91-97 decision in Cleveland back on November 21st and a 101-108 loss at home on December 16th. That was then and this is now as this team’s better days of this season are way behind them.

At 10-20, Philadelphia has one of the worst home records in the league and is facing the best road team in the league. Couple this with Lebron James returning to the lineup after a week’s rest and most likely looking to put on a show, this one should get ugly early.

I may be missing something, but Cleveland only giving 7 ½ to this team is a very generous gift.
