The only two questions remaining:

  • 1. Will they sweep the Bucks?
  • 2. Is it even in their best interest to sweep?

The Heat will be taking on the winner of the series between the Nets and the Bulls, which currently sits at 1-1 and has the feel of a matchup that could go deep. If the Heat win tonight, then put the ribbon on the package this Sunday and finish a sweep of the Bucks, and Brooklyn and Chicago indeed go deep, Miami could be waiting around for a week before starting the Eastern Conference semifinals.

While a week in the Miami sun might appeal to the players, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra might have to think of some creative ways to keep the boys focused while they wait for the next fatted calf to sacrifice.

That’s then and this is now, though, and tonight the Heat are expected to make it a 3-0 series when they take on the Bucks in Milwaukee in what is almost assuredly the next-to-last NBA game that will be played in the Bradley Center until next fall.

Miami has taken different routes to winning in Game 1 and 2.

In the opener the Heat, as expected, felt things out for a period before depressing the accelerator in the final 36 minutes in a blitzkrieg we’ve seen so often this season. [ad-6571516]

The fact that the Heat turned the ball over 19 times (to 12 for Milwaukee) didn’t matter.

To its credit, Milwaukee made things interesting in Game 2 before the Heat decided that enough was enough, and a 30-21 fourth period ended any suspense in the game and also the series.

The Bucks will reap the economic benefits of two more sellouts, but with almost no chance of the series coming back to Wisconsin for a Game 6, the team will soon start a complete autopsy on what has been a disappointing season. Ownership, coaches and roster makeup will all be on the table.

Conventional wisdom is that overmatched teams coming home in 0-2 give their best shot in Game 3, but conventional wisdom is out the door in this series. Miami has too many weapons for the Bucks to combat, and when the Heat have an edge in the paint, it’s pretty much over.

Liking a Miami cover at 7.5 in this one as the Heat players figure out that they might get what amounts to a week off if they sweep the series.
