Since they lost a disappointing 105-96 decision to Sacramento on November 19, the Hornets have been getting warm. And how. New Orleans has won six of its last seven games, and that includes home wins by 12 points over Oklahoma City, 13 points over Phoenix, and 19 points over Memphis. Can they get in that same neighborhood in this game against Larry Brown’s Bobcats?

Well, the ‘Cats are on a three-game losing streak, and their only wins in the last ten days were against lesser lights Minnesota and Oklahoma City, both in such bad shape that they have gone through coaching changes. And here, revenge will be the order of the day for the Hornets. Back on November 7 they were turned back 92-89 in Charlotte; Raymond Felton and Jason Richardson both had 20 points in that Bobcat win. Surely the motivation is there for some payback.

Brown has been tweaking things a little in the Bobcat camp, and the result has been some competitive efforts, particularly on the road, where the team has covered five of its last six, including a straight-up win at the Conseco Fieldhouse. Of the last seven losses, six of them have been by seven points or less. The 20-point defeat to Cleveland on Saturday was after a game in Milwaukee the night before. Last time out, on Monday, there was a cover in Miami despite 41 points from Dwyane Wade, as well as the absence of Gerald Wallace, who was attending to a personal matter.

The problem is that the team is thin right now. Wallace probably won’t be back tonight. Sean May has tendonitis flaring up in his knee. Things are getting desperate enough that Juwan Howard may be signed to a contract by game time. So they are short-handed, and under the circumstances are subject to a blowout. We’ll lay points with New Orleans, the 13-point favorite in the NBA pro basketball betting odds.
