The Atlanta Hawks continued their good fortune against Orlando by easily taking the first game of the series. The game was higher scoring than expected which favours Atlanta, the more prolific team.

The Hawks won despite not being able to contain Magic centre Dwight Howard at all. Any notions of Jason Collins being some sort of Superman Stopper have been easily dispelled in my books and none of their other post players fared much better either.

Still they won the game getting balanced scoring from 5 players that reached double figures. They made it look easy too shooting a sterling 51% from the field. It is hard to imagine they can continue to keep up that pace, especially against a Magic team that needs to come out angry or risk losing complete control of the series.

It is always interesting to see how home teams respond when they lose the advantage by losing game 1.

Dwight Howard was near unstoppable in the opener of the series scorning 46 points while grabbing 19 rebounds.

But it was all for not as the Hawks took control in the second quarter of the opener and never let go. Howard was efficient in his production but still needs to improve at the foul line. He wasn’t abysmal at 14 for 22 but is he makes a few more it changes the complexion of the game.

Enough about Howard as you can not pin the loss on his shoulders after that effort and Jameer Nelson was solid in support too with 27 pointss. The rest of the team was a no complete show. No one else scored more than 6 points with the combination of Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu shooting 4 for 17.

The Magic will not beat anybody if they can not knock down shots. Their formula is simple as they feed off the attention Howard commands to open looks for their shooters.

That’s really all they have got and it will be interesting to see how will they respond in game 2.

Free Hawks vs Magic Pick:

It is interesting that after game 1 the line is the same for game 2. I have a hard time seeing the Magic flop again and getting down 2-0. Again I am predicting a close one with the real value on the underdog Hawks.

Score prediction: Orlando – 97 vs. Atlanta – 95
