NBA All-Star Game Pick – Big East or Wild West

Okay sports betting fanatics, this Sunday’s 2009 NBA All-Star Game offers BetUS sports betting members another opportunity to increase the pro hoops seasonal bankroll in what promises to be another thrilling contest featuring the best players on the face of the planet.

Before I proceed with making my selection on the winner of Sunday’s matchup, let’s take a quick look back at the results of the past five NBA all-star games in an effort to point NBA sports bettors in the right direction.

NBA All-Star Game Results

2008 East 134 West 128
2007 West 153 East 132
2006 East 122 West 120
2005 East 125 West 115
2004 East West 136 East 132

The starters for the East include Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat and Allen Iverson of the Detroit Pistons.

The West All-Stars starters include Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Amare Stoudemire of the Phoenix Suns, and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs and Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets.

Coaching the East will be Cavaliers defensive-oriented head coach Mike Brown while the venerable Phil Jackson, head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, will lead the West.

While the West All-Stars have four players towering at 7-foot or more in height, I fully believe the East team has the more explosive group of scorers with A.I., D-Wade, LeBron James, Ray Allen, Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce all being able to create – and make their own shots any time they want.

The West team has the better group of floor leaders in Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Chauncey Billups, but that fact may not come into play much as the All-Star game rarely runs a set play.

Analysis: While the West team possesses the best scorer on the face of the planet in Kobe Bryant, I like the East to win the All-Star game for the fifth time in the last six seasons with its more explosive group of scorers.

Players like Tim Duncan, Amare Stoudemire, Yao Ming, Shaquille O’Neal and David West are all post players that aren’t as fleet afoot as their Eastern Conference opponents and all need to have the ball delivered to them in the low post to be effective.

I say, take the high-flying East team, with its bunch of explosive one-on-one scorers to exploit the run-and-gun All-Star Game style, all the way to victory.
