2015 NBA Rookie Of The Year Predictions & Betting Odds Preview

ROTY Gambling Picks – NBA Odds

The 2014 NBA draft class is one of the most hyped to enter the league in recent memory. In fact, some are saying this group could be the best since the 2003 class that produced players such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony.

Who are the players making this class so coveted? It all starts with Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 pick, but there’s one player ahead of him when it comes to Rookie of the Year odds.

Jabari Parker — Milwaukee Bucks

Odds: 3/1

Jabari Parker was a stud at Duke, but without even looking at his statistics, you could tell he was the most NBA-ready prospect entering the 2014 draft.

At this point, the youngster has a lot of hype surrounding him. He’s joining the Milwaukee Bucks who had the worst record in the Association last season, but he’s already drawing comparisons to players such as Carmelo Anthony and Paul Pierce because of his offensive playing style.

Nobody expects the former Blue Devil to be Anthony or Pierce from Day 1, but the hope is that he comes in and produces right away. The Bucks have plenty of young talent on the roster, but they’re lacking a true leader, which gives Parker the green light to take over from the start of the year onward.

Andrew Wiggins — Minnesota Timberwolves

Odds: 4/1

Andrew Wiggins was put in an uncomfortable situation this summer. He went from No. 1 overall pick to trade bait in the blink of an eye, but as a result, his Rookie of the Year odds increased substantially.

If Wiggins hadn’t been dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves, he would have been playing alongside two proven performers in LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Sure, he would have won a whole lot more games than he’s going to in Minnesota, but in the shadow of James and Irving, his individual performances would have been cast aside far more than they’re going to alongside Ricky Rubio and Kevin Martin.

Nerlens Noel — Philadelphia 76ers

Odds: 6/1

Nerlens Noel missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury. Now he’s back, and he’s looking to take over the spotlight on a rebuilding team in Philly.

Although Noel didn’t play a single game last season, he did spend time around and NBA locker room. He should be better prepared than anyone on this list, and as a result, he has a chance to be a true difference maker on the defensive side of the floor.

Julius Randle — Los Angeles Lakers

Odds: 7/1

Julius Randle has been a Los Angeles Lakers fan all his life, and now he has a chance to play for them following a successful one-and-done campaign at Kentucky that landed him in the lottery of the 2014 draft. Talk about living the life.

The Lakers are in flux, which usually means few wins and more individual success for rookies. The problem is that Randle is a rookie in a crowded frontcourt playing behind Carlos Boozer. If the team is anywhere near contention for the playoffs after the All-Star break, expect Boozer to start the rest of the way. If it’s not, the starting 4-spot could go to Randle, improving his chances of taking home Rookie of the Year honors.

2015 NBA Rookie of the Year Prediction

Barring a shockingly effective season from Nerlens Noel on both ends of the floor, this award should come down to the top two picks in the most recent draft: Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker.

At this point, both players have their advantages. Parker is a more refined offensive player, who by the way is on a team that desperately needs someone to take over. Wiggins, however, is more effective on defense than Parker has proven up to this point, and he has a solid point guard in Ricky Rubio to help him make plays.

Although Parker might have the better individual season in terms of statistics, Wiggins has to have the edge. Not only does he have players around him who can actually help his rookie year, but he can use his talents early in his career to be a defensive stopper as well.

Combine that with the motivation he has to prove the Cavs wrong for trading him, and you’ve got a favorite even with the odds in Parker’s favor.
