2012-2013 NBA MVP Predictions + Betting Odds

2012/2013 NBA MVP Predictions/Preview

The NBA has become one of the most star-driven leagues in all of sports, and as a result, there are more than a handful of candidates when it comes to the 2012-13 MVP award.

Superstars are scattered all over the league, but only the top of the top-tier players earn legitimate MVP consideration heading into the year.

5) Chris Paul—Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers experienced one of the biggest turnarounds in the league last season, and Chris Paul is hands-down the biggest reason for the improvement. The point guard has virtually no flaw to his game, he can take over in crunch time and he is one of the best at getting his teammates involved. His MVP candidacy could be hurt if his team struggles—or if his knees fail him—throughout the year, but he is arguably the game’s best point guard heading into 2013.

Odds: 20/1

4) Dwight Howard—Los Angeles Lakers

The drama surrounding Dwight Howard is over—for the time being—and it’s time for the center to get back to playing basketball. If Howard has trouble coming back from season-ending surgery—or if he can never blend with his superstar teammates—he’ll go another season without winning the award; but he is the NBA’s best center for a reason, and he’ll show how dominant he can be on more than one occasion this year.

Odds: 16/1

3) Kobe Bryant—Los Angeles Lakers

Like Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant’s MVP run will be stopped in its tracks if the 34-year-old can’t adapt to a new blend of players, or if his health proves to be an issue this season. That being said, the 2-guard is one of the best scorers in the league. His mid-range game is as deadly as it gets, and he’s one of the most reliable player in the NBA with the game on the line. Odds: 12/1

2) Kevin Durant—Oklahoma City Thunder

Kevin Durant came oh so close to an NBA championship last season, and he is going to show from game one of the new year that he is ready to get back and compete once again. Despite playing alongside a shoot-first point guard who took 19 shots per game, Durant earned his third-straight scoring title in 2012. He may still be young, but last year’s postseason showed he can take over late in a game, which is something LeBron James is just now beginning to display.

Odds: 15/4

1) LeBron James—Miami Heat

LeBron James is arguably the best basketball player in the world, and he is coming off one of the best basketball years we’ve seen in a long time. The 27-year old won the regular season MVP, the NBA Finals MVP and an Olympic gold medal in just a matter of months. His league-leading PER last season proves he can do it all, and he’ll be the favorite to win the MVP award in the eyes of many again this season.

Odds: 9/5

2013 NBA MVP Predictions

LeBron James may be coming off a historic year of basketball, but Kevin Durant is as hungry as ever to win big. James is about as good as an honorable mention as it gets, and Kevin Love (not mentioned) is a sleeper if his team stars winning (Odds: 20/1), but Durant has matured so drastically in his first five seasons that 2013 could be the year when he wins his first MVP award.
