2010 NBA Draft Analysis

The top of the draft goes according to plan. The Wizards take John Wall first, and the 76ers pick Evan Turner second. What a snoozer…

NBA news: 2010 draft recap

As we await tonight’s NHL draft, we’ll start with an NBA draft summary.

It was a fairly uneventful draft night in that there were few surprises but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t exciting to see who went where.

John Wall went to the Washington Wizards first overall, becoming the first Kentucky player to get that honor. Washington stayed busy, acquiring Kirk Hinrich and the 17th pick in the draft (French forward Kevin Seraphin) in exchange for nothing but cap space. Think the Bulls are planning for a LeBron push? Um, yeah.

National player of the year Evan Turner went to the Philadelphia 76ers at second overall, followed by freshman Derrick Favors heading to the New Jersey Nets.

No college had a more exciting night than Kentucky, however. After Wall went, DeMarcus Cousins went to Sacramento at No. 5 overall. When Houston chose Patrick Patterson 14th and Eric Bledsoe fell to Oklahoma City at No. 18, that gave the Wildcats four players in the top 18. The Magic took Daniel Orton 29th and in doing so gave Kentucky a record for players taken in the first round of one draft.

The weirdest moment of the night came when the Portland Trail Blazers fired general manager Kevin Pritchard an hour before the draft started. I guess they really didn’t want him making picks?
