Chicago Bulls
Sportsbook.com Bulls Odds to win NBA title – 15/1
Key players added – Carlos Boozer
Key players lost – Kirk Hinrich

You have to like the way the Bulls have gone about their business building a team that appears to be only a few pieces away from doing some real damage. They may still be only the fourth-best team in the East (behind Miami, Boston and Orlando), but no one in the Central Division seems capable of giving them much trouble this season anyway.

It all starts and ends with Derrick Rose, and while it’s not usually a good idea to have your point guard also be your leading scorer, it works with the Bulls. Rose is also a better-than-average one-on-one defender, and is a rare breed who can step up his game in the playoffs – last season he averaged 20 points a game in the regular season and 26 in the postseason (which ended in a five-game loss to the Cavaliers).

Chicago re-signed the frenetic Joakim Noah, who averaged a double-double (11 and 11) last season, and stiffened the front line further with the acquisition of Carlos Boozer from Utah.Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Boozer is hurt but in the long run will be a huge plus on a front line that will have lots of elbow room because opponents will have to stretch their defenses. In fact, Kyle Korver also came over from the Jazz, and will give the Bulls a terrific shooter off the bench.

Tom Thibodeau, the architect of Boston’s smothering defense that won the title in 2008, takes over from Vinny Del Negro as head coach, and the low-key Thibodeau will certainly calm things down quite a bit after a season in which Del Negro spent much of his time feuding with the front office.

The Bulls didn’t land free agent targets LeBron James or Dwyane Wade, but they should be just fine without them.

Surprising stat: Chicago shot only 33 percent on 3-point shots last season, its long-range shooting suffering partly due to the loss of free agent Ben Gordon.
Strengths: Rose is the best PG in the division and one of the best in the league. Thibodeau has potential to be a top-flight coach.
Weaknesses: They just don’t shoot the ball all that well. Korver will help, though.
Playoffs? Pretty much a lock, unless Rose is injured and misses half a season or more.
Win total projection for 2010-11: 49
