2010/2011 NBA MVP Predictions/Preview
Last year LeBron James won his second straight MVP, but can he make it three straight now that he is not the only big gun in Miami?
The team success of the Heat is important for King James and there are several other players that have legit odds to win the most valuable player led by Kevin Durant, who has the best odds to win it before the season begins.
Here is a NBA preview along with the odds for the top 10 MVP hopefuls for the 2010/2011 season.

Kevin Durant +250
Last season Durant was the youngest player ever to win a scoring title and he will likely light up the scoreboard again since he is THE guy in Oklahoma City. For Durant to win the MVP he will not only have to have great individual stats, but the Thunder have to do well, especially against the big teams in the league like the Lakers, Heat, Magic, and Celtics. If the Thunder are a bubble playoff team like last season it will be hard for Durant to win the MVP.
Kobe Bryant +275
It is interesting the Bryant won the MVP in 2007/2008 and King James won it the last 2 seasons even though Kobe’s Lakers took home the title. Kobe is still the best in the game at making the clutch shot and he ranked fourth in the league in scoring last season and is one of the best defenders in the league. This season he has a better chance to win the award, as LeBron does not have to do it all like he had to do with the Cavaliers and his stats may suffer because of it.
LeBron James +350
James has won the MVP the last 2 seasons, but this year it will be harder since he has to share the ball with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. In Cleveland King James had to do everything and now he is playing beside 2 superstars. Even if James’ numbers are down, but they are close and the Heat win the title it will be hard to deny him the award.
Dwight Howard +650
Howard may be the best defensive player in the league and last year he led the NBA in rebounds and blocks. However, he needs to play better on the offensive end of the court and come up with some shots that are not just dunks. Also, for Howard to have any chance to win the award the Magic will have to go far in the playoffs.
Dwayne Wade +800
Much like LeBron James, who is now Wade’s teammate, Wade will not have to carry the Heat. With James and Bosh on board Wade’s numbers will likely go down, but that may be a good thing for the Heat if the New Big 3 can learn how to share the ball as teams win titles players don’t.
Carmelo Anthony +1000
Melo is one of the best scorers in the league, but he will not win the MVP unless he tries harder on defense. When Melo gives his all on D he is a solid defender, but he tends to be a little lackadaisical on that side of the court. Plus, or actually it should be a minus, Melo may be distracted by the trade talk and he may not be with Denver the whole season.
Chris Paul +1400
There is not doubt that Chris Paul is a great player, but a MVP candidate? He is coming off an injury-marred season and he plays on a Hornets team that will have to really exceed expectations to make the playoffs. However, if Paul pulls off a LeBron James and carries New Orleans to, at least, the playoffs and puts up great stats he has a chance to win the coveted award.
Derrick Rose +2000
Rose may be a good dark horse pick to win the MVP now that he has Carlos Boozer by his side. He may have a breakout season with Boozer down low, which will open up the floor for him to do his thing. If Rose can increase his stats in the assist and rebound department and the Bulls do well in the payoffs he has a legit chance to win the award.
Brandon Roy +2000
Roy has game, but not a lot of people know about since he plays in small market Portland. He is coming off a season where he was bothered by minor injuries and he will need to have a great statistical season and lead the Blazers to the post-season to have any chance to win the MVP. It will also help him greatly if Greg Oden can stay healthy, as it will open up the perimeter and give Roy more room to operate.
Amare Stoudemire +2500
Stoudemire is now in the Big Apple and he will likely put up big numbers in the Knicks up-tempo offense. He must improve his rebounding and the Knicks have to improve as a team. Even if Stoudemire puts up HUGE numbers, but the Knicks still suck why would he be seen as the most valuable player in the league?
2010/2011 NBA MVP Prediction
I think this year it will be a very close vote between Durant and Bryant, but even though Kobe will be going for the 3-peat Durant will carry the Thunder far and win his first MVP award.

The MVP is for the regular season, not the playoffs. Why do you insist on saying a team must go far in the playoffs to get MVP. It is usally given in the first round of the playoffs, and again it’s for the regular season only.
