Sportsbook.com NBA Basketball Betting Odds – LA Clippers Odds To Win NBA Title – 90/1
Over/under regular season wins Odds: 34.5 (-120)
The problem with the Clippers is you never know at what point this team will flat-out quit.
You can’t have high first-round picks year after year and not acquire good players, but eventually they cop a ‘tude and the next thing you know their careers are in the dumper.
In that respect, this team has potential – potential to improve and potential to again implode.
Key players added – Blake Griffin, Craig Smith, Sebastian Telfair, Rasual Butler
Key players lost – Zach Randolph
The good news is that Blake Griffin should be a solid pro, perhaps a perennial All-Star. Mike Dunleavy can plug him into the starting lineup for the season and watch him go nuts for 35-40 minutes a game. He plays hard on both ends, which in Clipperland is a unique attribute.
Whether the Clips can ride Griffin to a major step up depends a lot of whether Dunleavy, a noted control freak, can co-exist with point guard Baron Davis, who views each game as a blank canvas upon which he can paint his own picture. They’ve clashed in the past, and a slow start would pretty much guarantee another battle or two. And even if they decide to get along, don’t forget Ricky Davis and Sebastian Telfair are also on the roster and capable of gumming up the works.
Besides Griffin and Davis, LA will probably start Marcus Camby, Rasual Butler and Al Thorton. There’s enough talent to take a major step up in the not-as-good-as-it-has-been Western Conference, but with this franchise you never know.
Surprising stat: Not too surprising, but last year’s team lost its final three games of the season by a combined total of 77 points.
Strengths: These guys should be able to score, and with Camby and Griffin they will have two decent defenders on the front line.
Weaknesses: The franchise has lost so much, it carries losing baggage everywhere it goes.
Playoffs? Possible, if Griffin figures out things quickly and Baron Davis drinks Dunleavy’s Koo-Aid. Otherwise . .
