Nascar Pep Boys Auto 500 Driver Picks

Rocketman Sports Top 5 Nascar Drivers Atlanta Motor Speedway

Friday, 24th October 2008

The Sprint Cup boys move to Atlanta this Sunday for the 33rd race of the season. Atlanta Motor Speedway is a 1.54 mile Oval Fast Superspeedway located in Hampton, Georgia. Here are my Top 5 drivers to win in Atlanta this weekend. We still have to wait for Qualifying and Happy Hour before finalizing our Head to Head matchups. Atlanta is normally a very good money track for us!!

Visit ‘Rocky Atkinsons’ page now!

For starters, I think Jimmie Johnson has the best shot of winning this race. Johnson has 3 wins, 8 Top 5 finishes and 9 Top 10 finishes in his 14 starts here in Atlanta. Johnson has an average finish of 9.6 here in Atlanta which is the best among all active drivers. Past 2 years, Jimmie Johnson’s average finish at track type – FAST SUPERSPEEDWAY is 12.5. In 13 races, he has 4 wins and 8 top 10 finishes. Jimmie Johnson’s average finish over the past 3 races is 5.3. In 3 races, he has 1 win and 3 top 10 finishes. Jimmie Johnson’s average finish over the past 10 races is 7.6. In 10 races, he has 4 wins and 8 top 10 finishes.

Next in line I would go with Carl Edwards. Edwards has 2 wins, 4 Top 5 finishes and 6 Top 10 finishes in 8 starts here in Atlanta. Edwards has an average finish of 12.9 here in Atlanta. Past 2 years, Carl Edwards’s average finish at track type – FAST SUPERSPEEDWAY is 12.6. In 13 races, he has 2 wins and 8 top 10 finishes. Carl Edwards’s average finish over the past 10 races is 9.4. In 10 races, he has 2 wins and 7 top 10 finishes.

Then, back in my 3rd spot, I have to go with Jeff Gordon. Gordon has 4 wins, 13 Top 5 finishes and 20 Top 10 finishes in his 32 starts in Atlanta. Gordon has an average finish of 12.8 here in Atlanta which is the 4th best among all active drivers. Past 2 years, Jeff Gordon’s average finish at track type – FAST SUPERSPEEDWAY is 13.3. In 13 races, he has 1 win and 9 top 10 finishes.

Looking at my pick for the 4th spot we turn to Bobby Labonte. Labonte has 6 wins, 12 Top 5 finishes and 13 Top 10 finishes in his 31 starts in Atlanta. Labonte has an average finish of 16.3 in Atlanta.

Rounding out my Top 5 and sitting in the 5th position is Tony Stewart. Stewart has 2 wins, 8 Top 5 finishes and 12 Top 10 finishes in his 19 starts in Atlanta. Stewart has an average finish of 12.0 in Atlanta which is 3rd best overall. Past 2 years, Tony Stewart’s average finish at track type – FAST SUPERSPEEDWAY is 15.3. In 13 races, he has 0 wins and 6 top 10 finishes. Tony Stewart’s average finish over the past 3 races is 12.7. In 3 races, he has 1 win and 1 top 10 finish.
