2014 NASCAR SPRINT CUP STANDINGS (Link)

Speaking of heating up, there is no driver hotter right now than Brad Keselowski after posting his second-straight Sprint Cup victory with a win last Sunday afternoon at Chicago. Jeff Gordon stayed right on his tail by taking third and Kyle Larson finished third.

The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s race based on odds provided by our Top Sportsbooks.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

You could have pocketed a few bucks the last two weeks by going chalk with a play on Brad Keselowski and that is not a bad strategy again this week at 15/4 odds to make it three checkered flags in a row.

The No. 2 car is now the team to beat with 2059 points at the top of the current Sprint Cup standings. This team has been getting it done all season long with five Sprint Cup victories and seven other top-five finishes. What really adds value to Keselowski’s odds for this Sunday’s race is the fact that he won the first race here back in mid-July.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

Wins are all that count now when it comes to staying in the Chase for this year’s title and, despite the fact that Matt Kenseth has not taken a checkered flag in a single Sprint Cup point race this season, he is my top contender to win this week at 12/1.

It has been a “close but no cigar” kind of season for the No. 20 car with 10 top-five finishes. It is not like this team is allergic to Victory Lane with a series-high seven Sprint Cup wins last season.

The main reason I am going with Kenseth this week is the fact that he comes into this race as the defending champion.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

I went with Carl Edwards at 20/1 last week and he finished a dismal 20th after starting third.

This time around I am going with another longshot that is in the Chase. Kurt Busch finished eighth last Sunday at Chicago and he has been listed as a 25/1 longshot to win the race this time around.

The No. 41 car is currently in ninth-place in the standings with 2039 points and just like every other Chase driver not named Keselowski, Busch needs a win to keep his title hopes alive.

He does have three career Sprint Cup victories at New Hampshire with the last one coming in 2008, but he has not cracked the top 10 in his last six trips around this track.
