NASCAR Sprint Cup Camping World RV Sales 500 Preview and Prediction
Race: Camping World RV Sales 500 at Talladega Superspeedway
Date: Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013
Time: 2 p.m. (ET)

Odds from Bovada

All the action from Talladega is set to get underway at 2 p.m. and the race will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Brad Keselowski failed to qualify for this season’s Chase, but the defending Sprint Cup Champion made his presence felt by taking the checkered flag at Charlotte this past Saturday night. Kasey Kahne raced his way to second and Matt Kenseth finished third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for Sunday’s race with odds provided by Bovada or Sportsbook.ag.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

The Oddsmakers do not have a set group of favorites for this race, just a bunch of contenders listed at +1000 to win on Sunday. The driver at the top of that list is the current leader in the Sprint Cup standings Matt Kenseth. His third-place finish last week gave the No. 20 team a total of 2225 points, but its lead over Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 car is just four points.

Kenseth has already posted Chase victories at Chicago and New Hampshire as part of his impressive resume of seven point-race wins this season. He comes into this week’s event as the defending champion after taking the checkered flag in last season’s Camping World RV Sales 500. He finished eighth in the first race at Talladega this season. The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

With the odds set so high for Sunday there are a number of quality contenders to win this race. We decided to go with Kasey Kahne at +1500 as the best choice for the value. The No. 5 car is buried in the current Chase standings in 12th place, but it is coming off last week’s impressive performance at Charlotte.

Kahne’s first trip to Talladega this season was one to forget after an early wreck ended his day. He finished 12th in last year’s race here, but in 2011 he remained competitive in both trips around the track with a sixth-place finish in the first race and fourth-place finish in this race.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

This is as good a race as any to make a small play on a longshot considering that all the drivers are faced with longer than usual odds to win. Looking at Sportsbook’s current list for someone that fits the bill, we are going with Greg Biffle at +2000.

He is currently sitting in fifth place in the standings with 2167 points and even though the No. 16 car’s title hopes are fading fast at 58 points out of the lead, you know that this team will do its best to turn in a competitive run this Sunday afternoon.

Biffle finished 36th in the first race at Talladega this year, but he did post three top-10 finishes in four previous races here including a sixth-place finish in last year’s race.
