New Hampshire – Camping World RV 301 Predictions

The second half of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup series season kicks-off this Sunday afternoon with the running of the Camping World RV 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Camping World RV 301 Preview and Prediction
Race: Camping World RV 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Date: Sunday, July 14, 2013
Time: 1 p.m. (ET)
Broadcast: TNT

Sunday’s race is set to get underway at 1 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on TNT.

Last Saturday night at Daytona, Jimmie Johnson completed a rare season sweep at that fabled track with a victory in the Coke Zero 400 after winning the Daytona 500 to start the year. Tony Stewart ended-up in second place and Kevin Harvick took third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Sunday’s race with odds provided by Sportsbook.ag.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Johnson has once again been opened as the favorite to win this week at +500, but so has Denny Hamlin. It has been a season to forget for the No.11 car when it comes to wrecks. He got knocked-out of action for four races earlier in the year after sustaining a back injury at Fontana and his day ended early in wrecks in his last two races.

A driver as good as Hamlin is still a threat to win every week, but the main reason for such favorable odds for this race is his recent performance at New Hampshire. After taking second in this race last season he went on to win the second race at this track later in the year.

His average finishing position at this track over the course of his Sprint Cup career is a rock-solid 7.9. [ad-8757089]

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

There are certain Sprint Cup drivers you jump all over when they are listed at longer odds and Matt Kenseth is one of them this week at +1500. The No. 20 car has already taken the checkered flag four times this season and on the strength of five additional top-10 finishes is currently sitting in sixth-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 540 points.

New Hampshire is definitely not one of Kenseth’s favorite tracks with zero victories here and an average finishing position of 14.0, but his current form more than justifies the risk of a small play on him to win this week.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

For much the same reason we are taking a bit of a flyer on Kenseth this week as a contender, we are going with Carl Edwards as our top-valued longshot at +2500.

The No. 99 car has only made its way to victory lane once this season, but it has been in the mix in a number of races with eight additional top-10 finishes. So much so that five of them were in the top five which has been good enough to propel the team to third place in the standings with 587 points.

The main reason for the long odds this week is the fact that Edwards has just three career top-10 finishes at New Hampshire in 17 previous Sprint Cup races at this track.
